Mental Health & Wellbeing
“Between 30 and 60 per cent of deaf people experience mental health issues during their lifetime, more than double the figure for the hearing population”
The Joint Commissioning Panel for Mental Health
Deafness and Mental Health
Mental health challenges affect many people, but they can be even more pronounced for those who are Deaf or hard of hearing, due to barriers in communication, limited access to services, and increased risk of isolation.
People who are Deaf or hard of hearing may experience a range of mental health challenges, including difficulty following conversations and feeling excluded socially and professionally, fatigue and irritability from the constant effort required to understand others, and the emotional impact of losing their previous way of life.
They may also struggle with knowing how or where to seek help, experience low self-esteem, and be at increased risk of depression and anxiety.

How we can help
CDA run coffee mornings and wellbeing walks across the county to help promote connections for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We also arrange wellbeing walks which aim to improve accessibility to the outdoors and social spaces.
All our groups welcome everyone, Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Hearing. If you would like to join us then please visit our Facebook page to see what events are going on across the county.
